A small experiment turned into a big business of flowers!
Vesalu Puro of Phek district in Nagaland has transformed the hobby of growing flowers into a successful floriculture enterprise of 1.5 hectares today.
This transformation was made possible by the significant role of #ICAR-KVK, which introduced them to the high-yielding variety of 'Arka Amar' gladiolus, provided 6,000 healthy seedlings, and trained them in scientific flower production, nutrition, water management, pest control, and post-harvest management.
The result? Just 0.25 acres yielded 5,400 market-ready flowers, with a gross income of ₹81,000 and a net income of ₹52,070.
Today, their farm is home to nearly 400 varieties of flowers, and the flowers are reaching not only Nagaland but also New Delhi and Mumbai.
This story shows that when a farmer's hard work is supported by ICAR's scientific technology and KVK's guidance, even a small experiment can turn into a successful business filled with flowers.
