The ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Phek, in collaboration with the ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun (NRCM), Medziphema, organized a Kisan Mela-cum-Brainstorming Session on Dairy Sector Development in Nagaland on February 2, 2026, at the Porba Local Ground. The programme was conducted in collaboration with the National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad, the Department of Animal Husbandry, Nagaland, the ICAR–Central Institute for Research on Cattle (CIRC), Meerut, and the ICAR–National Research Centre on Equine, Hisar. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Phek, delivered the welcome address and briefed the gathering about the activities of KVK and NRCM Porba Station and purpose of conducting Brainstorming Session on Dairy Sector in Nagaland. The event was graced by Dr. Girish Patil S., Director, ICAR–NRCM; Dr. Pritpal Kaur, Superintendent of Police, Phek; Dr. Imomanen Tzudir, Director, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Nagaland; and Shri Rhosietho Nguori, Deputy Commissioner, Phek.The Chief Guest, Shri Kudecho Khamo, Adviser (CAWD & Taxes), Government of Nagaland, stressed the importance of strengthening the dairy sector for rural income generation. The technical session on “Roadmap for Development of Dairy Sector in Nagaland” was chaired by Dr. Girish Patil, with Dr. Imomanen Tzudir as Co-Chairman and Dr. A. Sirohi, Principal Scientist (ICAR–CIRC, Meerut), and Dr. Nemichand, Principal Scientist (ICAR–CIRC, Meerut), as Rapporteurs.The presentations included:Overview of Dairy Sector in Nagaland – Dr. Kathiravan Periasamy,Scientific Dairy Farming – Dr. A. Sirohi and Strategies to Enhance the Dairy Value Chain in Nagaland – Dr. Sivakumar, ICAR–NAARM (online), Representatives from DIMUL, KOMUL, and MOMUL discussed the challenges and opportunities in strengthening dairy cooperatives in the state.A round-table discussion was held in the afternoon, moderated by Dr. Kathiravan Periasamy, with participation from experts, officials, milk union chairpersons, and dairy farmers. The session focused on drafting a practical roadmap for dairy development in Nagaland.
