ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Phek, Nagaland in collaboration with ICAR–Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly, organised a three-day training programme on “Empowering Rural Livelihood through Scientific Pig Production and Management under NEH Programme” from 12–14 October 2026. Farmers from 15 villages of Phek district participated in the programme. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Phek, coordinated the programme and highlighted the role of scientific pig farming in improving rural livelihoods. Dr. M. H. Khan, Principal Scientist and Head (Animal Reproduction), ICAR–IVRI, Bareilly, delivered technical sessions on suitable pig breeds, housing, feeding, breeding management, marketing and value addition for profitable pig production. Dr. Ajay Kumar Yadav, Scientist, Division of Microbiology, ICAR–IVRI, Bareilly, sensitised farmers on farm biosecurity, vaccination, disease prevention, hygiene and scientific piglet care to reduce mortality and improve productivity. The programme included farmer–scientist interactions to address field-level challenges. Participating farmers received piglets, starter feed, multivitamin and multimineral supplements to encourage the adoption of scientific piggery practices, enhance household income and promote sustainable rural livelihoods.
